Half Roll Cage
Here's a page for the roll cage I recently (5/16) put in the Scrambler.
The Scrambler has 2 soft tops; a full soft top for the winter and a half soft
top / tonneau cover
for the summer. This meant that I had to come up with a cage that would fit
inside the half top. I got some ideas from others I had seen online and made this page to gather some pics.
I noticed that the CJ7 main hoop is a close fit so I pulled the cage off
Panther before it was junked. I think it's the 4WD kit by Kentrol.
I cut the spreaders off each side of the the main
hoop and in this pic start to line everything up.
I think it ended up being about 2" from the stock roll bar and you can see the "feet" fabbed for the main hoop (shown here).
I took my time with measurements and welded the spreaders and feet on the
main hoop in place. Then I removed it to finish the welds.
Here's what it looks like installed.
The half soft top is a tight fit and the main hoop actually sits farther back than bow in the soft top (shown here) but I can live with that. This is a pic with the top from the inside
Another advantage with doing this cage is that I can get rid of the lap seat
belts and go with shoulder strap belts. I lost the chicken bar, sun visors and
use of the glove box because the front hoop is so close to the interior, oh well.
There is still unfinished work to drill all the holes to bolt it down and
tie it into the frame at the front hoop but I will get to that soon.
