Front Dana 44 Swap
A few years ago I ditched my 4" lift in my CJ7 for a spring over and at the same time swapped front and rear dana 44's in place of the stock dana 30 and model 20. I got an axle from a 75 J20 3/4 ton pick-up and here are the specs from my dana spicer book:

Here's the axle after I cut it down 4.5".

When I did the front dana 44 swap I had a bunch parts and different options I was sorting through. , was an 8 lug bolt pattern, had the external style (non-selectable) hubs because it had a quadratec and had the large GM calipers and spindles. The dilemma is how to go about converting from 8 lug to 5 lug to match the 5 lug rear axle (scout 44 at the time).
Most of the front axle parts at my disposal were CJ parts so I decided to go with what I had. I used the flat top knuckles I got for the hysteer setup then this the rest of the parts:
This set up was ok for what needed to be thrown together in time to do the SOA swap in the spring of 00' but it's a compromise of good and weak parts that eventually needed addressing.
For a while I searched for the elusive small diameter GM spindles found in 74-76 FSJs which would fit with Ford hubs and rotors but I never found any and the prices were ridculous online.
One day I went to get some parts from Rick Borios and he came up with the idea of using 1/2 ton Dodge hubs/rotors to convert to 5 lug. He had some laying around and we test fitted to some of the commonly found large GM spindles and THEY FIT. I took them home and everything bolted right up.
Now the parts look like this:
Here's a comparison of the CJ spindle and Scout outer axle shaft and the GM Spindle and outer axle shaft.
Here's the Dodge rotor and hub compared to the CJ.
I know it's ghetto using those old rusty rotors but it's been running like that for 3 years
without any probs
