| SOA and Shackle Flip
At some point I would like to run some larger tires. I'm pretty much maxed to the largest tire for the stock wide trac Cherokee with the current 33x12.5s. I would like to run some 35s or 37s but 37s would require that I regear the axles to lower ratio. Currently my jeep does not have the ground clearance needed to go off road on the trails around here so a lift would be necessary. The previous owner had a custom exhaust that interferes with diff when the axle compresses. Also, with the current gas tank, a lift would provide more clearance between the rear axle and the back of the gas tank. The FSJ after 74' is a spring under axle set up on the front Dana 44 and is spring over and spring hangers outboard of the frame for the rear axle. Available lift kits provide arched leaf springs between the frame and axles. Previous lifts kits I had were terrible with a bone-jarring ride and "ok" performance off road. So after the success of the SOA on my CJ7, I opted to also perform the spring over the cherokee if I do any lift. I am familiar with the SOA for the front axle because the cherokee is the same as the J20 axle swapped into the Scrambler. However the rear is already SOA so I purchase the "RB Kustoms" rear shackle inversion kit. Also, I recently purchased high clearance steering arms for flat-top knuckles off ebay from http://www.shakerbuilt.com/ Next I will need some flat top knuckles and hopefully the GM ones with the 3 studs already on the driverside.
